Model 300 Receiver
Like many Advent product, this one was innovative in it’s own right. Please see the original advertisements for a description.
I remember when the model 300 came out in 1976, because Tom Holman went ‘on the road’ to hold talks about the unique features of this unit, especially his phono preamp work. He returned to his alma mater, the University of Illinois, where I was a graduate student at the time.Tom came to a local stereo store in Urbana, and held a seminar. He did a good job explaining the research done to produce the 300. The infrasonic filter was a particularly useful feature of the phono preamp. He also offered instructions on how to build an external buffer circuit to use with any phono preamp, to avoid cartridge impedance interaction. He sent out a letter with the circuit, and even included a pair of low noise transistors – for free!
As I did for the Advent Speaker ads, I’ve tried to recreate some of the original model 300 materials from photocopies using Quark Express and my digital camera.
